Health Tips

Healthy Resolutions

  • Eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day.
  • Drink 6-8 glasses of fluids every day.
  • Exercise regularly:  Combine aerobic, weight-training, stretching, and recreational activities.
  • Reduce “bad” fats.
  • Chew food thoroughly and eat consciously.
  • Limit sugar.  Sugar impairs the immune system along with increasing triglycerides, cholesterol, and insulin.  Check labels to find hidden sugar such as glucose, corn syrup, sucrose, and lactose.
  • Have more calcium to prevent osteoporosis:  besides dairy, you can get it in dark leafy green vegetables.  Soft drinks and high protein diets deplete calcium.
  • Make relaxation a priority and a regular part of your life.
  • Get more restful sleep:  besides being cautious about caffeine and alcohol, be aware that sugary snacks before bed can affect blood sugar levels and disturb sleep.
  • Develop and nurture your support network:  maintain meaningful and fulfilling relationships.
