About Pria Acharya Ingrum
I’ve been wondering ever since walking in the moonlight in my village in India as a 5 year-old what we’re doing here, along with wondering if the moon was following me. I normally try to understand the “big” picture in my life and have many ideals. I try to keep things in perspective and maintain my sense of humor.
I’m a middle-aged wife and mom to a teen son and toddler daughter. Originally from India, I have lived in the US since I was 7. Although I knew about 5 Indian languages at the time, I didn’t know any English. Once I arrived at the seemingly conservative town of Winchester, MA, I heard my first word, “Hi,” from a neighbor. Since then, I not only “conquered” the language, but decided I enjoyed writing in it. This interest, along with my tendency to “think too much,” (as a physician in India told my mother after a check-up when I was 12) has finally resulted in this wonderful medium of a blog. I’m a muser and blogging lets me muse away.
Since Winchester, I’ve lived in numerous cities in the US, to include (in order) Commack, Long Island, Knoxville, TN, Charlotte, NC, Pittsburgh, PA, Chicago, IL, and now Denver, CO, where I have now lived for 15 years. I am ready to move again, to a place that is warm, preferably near an ocean and where I can garden to my heart’s content.
As a mother, the concept of having balance in my life has taken a greater significance. I don’t want to spend my day in a cube while my children are in daycare and my pets are in an empty house I work to maintain, but don’t live in. I want to be able to nurture my family and myself while pursuing my passions. It seems possible in our technological times to achieve that.
To feel that my life has greater meaning and to seek that out has become increasingly important. As a mother, we learn to “not sweat the small stuff” and practice that daily. The whole process of bringing a child into the world is itself miraculous. To know that there is a purpose to their being here along with our existence becomes felt increasingly. I know that I at least have the huge purpose of ensuring the well-being of my children. It is an honor to be entrusted to their care. Beyond that, my faith and focus on spirituality helps me to seek out more meaning in my life. I am also a very logical person and it just seems logical that we were not just randomly born for no purpose but to clock in and out of meaningless jobs until we breathe our last breath.
I am also fascinated by cultural impacts on one’s relationship with finding meaning in life. I am enthralled by the seemingly simple lives some live in different cultures and the satisfaction achieved. It seems that our perspective on what is meaningful plays a big role in what is meaningful to us. If all I manage to achieve is to raise human beings I can be proud of, perhaps that is the greatest meaning I can find in my life.
My interests include cooking, gardening, photography, scrap-booking, dancing, drawing/painting, making jewelry, being a entrepreneur, and writing.
