Pets & Animal Welfare

Pets bring love and joy!
Raj in treeI’ve always cared for animals, particularly dogs as I took care of many in my village in India as a child. When I took my then 9 year-old son to India in December of 2007, he kept a journal that included a daily count of stray dogs that he saw (along with cows).

My dogs were adopted from The Dumb Friends League.  Please support this wonderful organization.  My cat is from another shelter, and all should be supported.

On 6/3/11, I lost my canine family member, Pooja (“prayer” in Hindi), after exactly 15 years together, and am currently in the grieving process as I write this update on 6/6/11.  I wrote a letter to my Pooja, posted today, to help me in the grieving process.  A resource I came across to help anyone struggling with pet loss is on Helpguide.

Animal Welfare:  I am impressed with Maneka Gandhi’s work and dedication to the welfare of animals.  She went through some challenging situations to focus much of her energy on the well-being of helpless animals.  One of her accomplishments include persuading Coca Cola to stop sponsoring bullfights in Mexico.  After doing an article of her for a magazine, her office sent me one of her books, The Rainbow and Other Stories.
